MRS. HEENAN, MOTHER OF 'PEACHES' BROWNING, NOW ONLY GUARDIAN
Supreme Court Justice Joseph Morschauser appointed Mrs. Carolyn Heenan as guardian of her daughter, Frances "Peaches" Browning, the 16-year-old wife of Edward W. Browning, in place of attorney M. Otis Rockwood. Rockwood had been named days earlier after Browning, in the first step of his suit for separation, alleged that Mrs. Heenan was not a fit person for the position; the court said it was satisfied the change would protect the interests of the infant defendant.
A Supreme Court justice replaces the court-appointed guardian of a 16-year-old wife whose husband has begun a suit for separation.
WHITE PLAINS, N. Y., Oct. 19. - (AP) - Frances "Peaches" Browning, 16-year-old wife of Edward W. Browning, wealthy New York real estate man, now has only one legal guardian, her mother, Mrs. Carolyn Heenan.
Supreme Court Justice Joseph Morschauser late today appointed Mrs. Heenan in place of M. Otis Rockwood, Poughkeepsie, N. Y., attorney, on the plea of Maurice Smith, attorney for "Peaches."
Last Saturday Borwning and his attorney appeared before Justice Morschauser in the first step in his suit for separation and asked that the court name a guardian, alleging that Mrs. Heenan was not a fit person for the position. The court appointed Rockwood.
Monday, "Peaches," through her attorney, had her mother appointed guardian by Supreme Court Justice Tierney in New York. After hearing today's application for the removal of Rockwood and substitution of Mrs. Heenan, the court said:
"I see no reason why the infant defendant's application should not be granted. I am satisfied that her interests will be protected by making the change requested."
